Our Developmental Service Worker diploma program combines in-depth instruction, hands-on training and a field-related work placement to prepare you for a rewarding career path in health services. Upon graduation, you’ll have the training and knowledge needed to work for community agencies, recreational centres, seniors’ centres, hospitals, outreach homes and more.
Throughout the program, you will gain the key skills needed to become a vital member of the community health team by assisting people with developmental disabilities and their families. Our intensive curriculum focuses on the different aspects of working with disabled persons, starting with a strong understanding of basic psychology, abnormal psychology and developmental disabilities. You will acquire tools in intervention methods, communication strategies, crisis prevention, human services resources and networking. You will also participate in field-related practicums that allow you to put your new skills into practice, gaining valuable insight and confidence.
